Twitter Review

Twitter Reviews
Twitter.com is a very popular social networking site used throughout the world. Founded in 2006, the site has 200 million registered accounts and is available in seven languages. It allows users to post short status updates, share links or photos, or have conversations with other users through “tweets.” You can connect to other users by “following” them—and they can also choose to follow you, too.
Twitter has great search options and the site makes it easy to find and follow interesting users. You can really benefit from using this social networking site by following a variety of accounts:friends, family, people in your profession, local shops and events people who share your passions and interests.
While Twitter is not meant specifically for dating or finding other singles, it can absolutely be used as a platform to seek out local events and venues in your area, connect with other people and, potentially, find and talk to other singles. It is listed as one of the 10 most-visited websites in the world—so if you spend some time talking with people and searching the site, you’re likely to discover other singles. Following another person’s Twitter stream can give you insight into their life, interests and hobbies in a more in-depth way than a simple dating profile.
Positives of Twitter
These are the best parts of Twitter.
- Free service – no fees associated with it
- A very popular website with millions of users and millions of “tweets,” or messages, sent every day—increasing the likelihood you can find other singles
- The site is very easy to use and the search is very in-depth
Negatives of Twitter
These are the parts of Twitter which needs improvement.
- This service is not meant specifically for online dating, so it doesn’t “guarantee” you will find other singles
Editors Bottom Line
What should you take away from this review of Twitter? Our expert explains:
While "Twitter" is not meant to be a dating service it is a place to meet new people and follow the news they share. As a service it is definitely not optimized to find the love of your life, but it has happened thanks to in part people who meet and share the same interests and passions.
We give Twitter, a 2 out of 5 Stars. ☹️

Twitter Viewing & Communication Features
- Personal profile
- One Photo
- Ability to search & view other members’ profiles
- Ability to contact other users via a direct message (private, limited to 280 characters)
- Twitter Basics
- Tweet:A 280-character status message that is public (anyone can view, even people not on Twitter). You can share links, photos or simply post a quick message about what you’re doing or what’s on your mind
- Following/followers:If you’re interested in what another user has to say, you can click one button to “follow” them, such that you can keep an eye on their status updates
- “@ reply” or mention:This is a public way to contact another user. By using the “@” symbol in front of a user’s Twitter name, you can “talk” to them directly. Doing so will cause your tweet to appear in their “mentions” list and they can read what you’ve said, or click on a link you’ve shared
- Direct Message (DM):This is a private way to contact another user. By sending a Direct Message to a user, you can share a message with them privately (no other users will see it). Note, however, that a user must be following you in order for you to DM them. If they are not following you, you can not DM them
- “#” or hashtag:This is a word or phrase with the “#” symbol in front of it
- Retweet or “RT”:If you want to repost something another user said or a link they shared, you can use the “retweet” button, or you can copy and paste the text and include “RT” and the user’s username
- Mobile Applications
- Twitter applications are available on the iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Palm. Be sure to visit the app store for your phone to find the Twitter application
- You can also connect to your Twitter account via your phone using SMS messages
- There are many third-party applications that you can download to your mobile phone so that you can access Twitter
- Dating on Twitter
- Though Twitter is not dedicated to online dating, you can use it as a simple, fun and interesting way to meet other people. The key is to be genuine, post interesting messages/links, and be friendly. Have conversations with people and be yourself
- It’s easy to search for other users by keyword or browsing through people your friends follow (more on searching, below). Taking the time to search for others in your area or other people who have similar interests will help you find other singles. Although there’s no guaranteed way to know whether another user is single/seeking a date, strike up a conversation and you may eventually find out
- Privacy and safety features
- Very easy to block users who are offensive or bothersome
- Your profile can be set as “private,” such that other users must send a request to follow you, and you can choose to allow or deny them. Note, however, that making your profile private will limit your ability to attract and communicate with other users
Searching and Matching
Twitter obviously has no automated matching, but what you can do is search in a number of different ways:
- Keyword or hashtag
- The search box at the top of the Twitter homepage allows you to search for other users by keyword, using a keyword or phrase preceded by a hashtag (“#” symbol), search by user name or search for location. This is a great way to find other interesting users. Do you like rock climbing, for example? Try searching “rock climbing” (using quotes) or search for #climb – you just might find other rock climbers! Or, you can see “trending topics” (meaning, keywords or phrases that a lot of users are tweeting about) based on your location. This is a great way to see what’s going on in your city or state. Click the hashtag trending topic, and you’ll see the entire list of users who’ve used that hashtag. Search through to find Twitter users in your area
- Lists
- Twitter lists are lists created where you can group together people based on any criteria/theme you’d like. For example, you can create a list, and add other users to the list, based on the city you live in. Or you could create a list for your favorite hobby, and include other users who also enjoy that hobby
- Another useful way to take advantage of lists is to go through the lists of your own friends or Twitter users that you like. Look at their lists to help you find new users to follow
- Location
- You may also search for other people by the location they’ve listed in their bio, or simply by typing in a location (your city, for example) to see it show up in tweets. Note, though, that just because a city name, for example, appears in a tweet doesn’t necessarily mean that the person who sent the tweet resides in that location
